
To help keep the people in our community safe, HFNJ worked with some current grantees, extending existing grants to enable them to understand the new landscape and convert HFNJ-funded work to meet the new reality. We made a six-figure contribution to the Pooled Fund administered by the United Way of Greater Newark and sit on the Advisory Committee for the distribution of that funding. In sum, HFNJ set aside almost all other concerns and has to date awarded the following Covid-19-related grants, which total approximately $3.5 million:
Covid-19 Emergency Grants:
Awarded early on in the crisis, these grants of up to $50,000 each helped community agencies and institutions stock up on PPE, install plexiglass shields and the like, convert to virtual service, and distribute food to individuals and families suddenly in need.
