Additional Focus Areas

In our continuous efforts to evaluate how we can have the most impact with limited dollars to meet the health needs of the community, HFNJ has repeatedly reexamined our priority areas for funding. For example, in its first decade, the Foundation funded innovative medical research projects, but shifted away from medical research to focus on clinical-based projects that more directly serve those in our catchment area. Likewise, over the years the Foundation has providing funding for social determinants of health such as food, shelter, and social services. In recent years, and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are focusing on direct medical and healthcare services, rather than wrap-around services that help to augment healthy living.
