In its first decade, the Foundation funded innovative medical research projects. While we no longer fund similar projects, the admiration of innovation continue to inform our current work. Grantmaking to strengthen the application of humanism in medicine has been a hallmark of HFNJ since our inception. Humanism in medicine codifies the idea that healthcare should encompass the principles of compassion, empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
