Remaining Steadfast in Our Partnerships

For over 25 years, helping vulnerable populations obtain access to quality healthcare has been—and continues to be—at the heart of The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey’s mission. All of us are experiencing a time of tremendous financial uncertainty for non-profits and local government entities. Not only are there likely to be funding reductions in the months ahead, but we are also anticipating significant health and human service policy priority shifts.

Please know that The Healthcare Foundation of NJ is monitoring closely these changes and their potential impact on the communities we serve.

Over the past several weeks, the professional staff and trustees at the Foundation have been spending a good deal of time with colleagues in the community and from other foundations.  We all agree that the path forward is mostly uncharted. Despite that, our trustees have re-affirmed our commitment to the communities we serve and are giving much thought as to how we can best support, strengthen and collaborate with our grantee partners.

It is clear that philanthropy cannot backfill the level of government funding cuts that are anticipated and our funds are limited. However, we offer our renewed support for your efforts building capacity for sustaining your work, creating development strategies, and maintaining the quality of your operations. In 2025, we plan to expand the way we work with our grantee partners beyond the grant funding itself. Toward that end, in January we launched the first in an ongoing series of free training seminars on capacity-building topics such as fundraising, communications, and program evaluation. We plan to continue to provide opportunities to convene and share updates and experiences related to funding reductions and policy changes at the federal, state or local levels. If helpful, our office space and conference room are available for those of you who would like to gather.

We recognize the tremendous value that each of you contribute. We are committed to you thriving, because we know the care, compassion, and quality of your service in Newark and environs and the Jewish Greater MetroWest region is central to a healthy community.

Please continue to reach out to update us on what you are experiencing. We remain focused on your success to strengthen your work.

In good health,

Amy Schechner, Board Chair
Michael Schmidt, CEO/Executive Director
